The following is a fictional story with fictional characters written from my brain for entertainment. Enjoy.
Kissandra ran her hands over her clothes to dust them off. It had been a moment since she had come back into town, but here she was in Cape May on old stomping ground. Everything felt familiar and different all at the same time. She had been traveling for a while. The town looked familiar, but the people had changed a little. Children had grown. Old ones had passed. And everyone in between was just trying to get through their own busy lives (Kissandra included).
Coming back to town was a decision she had made for multiple reasons. She was trying to live her life a different way. She wanted to slow down... enjoy life... and relieve some stress. In an effort to nurture her health and wellness she had signed up for a spelunking group that was being hosted by a tour company in town. Now, spelunking, for those who aren't aware, is cave diving. Kissandra was a 5'1 curvy girl who was outdoorsy, but she had never gone caving. But, she loved to swim... and she figured that cave diving couldn't be that difficult. So, she signed up.
That afternoon she loaded into a small boat that carried a group of 8 people out to the lush cavern. The leader of the group was a tour operator who was a young, fit man. He was fit with a solemn expression and bright blue eyes. His dark, black hair had hints of deep purple when the light hit it just right and Kissandra couldn't help but stare at the man. He was very attractive and she shifted, looking away shyly when he glanced over in her direction.
As the group stepped out onto the riverbank she saw the opening to the cave. It was a tunnel, and unbeknownst to the group leader... Kissandra was claustrophobic. Her soft green eyes widened slightly. "Alright everybody" the attractive, young man said. He clapped his hands together with excitement. "We are going to line up single file and dive down to the bottom of the water tube. At the bottom you will emerge in the lush cave so make sure to hold your breath and relax" he instructed. Kissandra felt her heart begin to pound in her chest.
One by one the people stepped forward. The leader assisted each one into a crouch pose and they jumped into the water before disappearing beneath the surface. "Fuck this!" Kissandra thought in a panic. She did not want to run out of air and drown. Finally, she was the last one in the group to go. The man turned and face her. He gestured for her to step forward. "I-- I can't--" she stammered, "I don't know how". He looked deeply patient and calm. "You'll be fine" he said in a strong but tender voice, "just hold your breath and crouch". Trembling she stepped towards him. He had strong hands that guided her to the edge of the river bank. "Ready?" he asked her. She glanced up and noticed just how bright his blue eyes were. "No" she admitted. He grinned at her. "You're gonna be fine" he reassured her. "How do you know I won't drown?" she blurted out quickly. It was his turn to chuckle softly. "I won't let anything happen to you" he said.
Kissandra felt foolish hearing his joyful laugh. "I don't even know your name" she grumbled to herself. "Speed" he said and placed a hand to the small of her back. Feeling his hand near her tailbone she inhaled sharply. Feeling her sharply inhale he knew that it was now or never. He shoved her into the water. All in one motion Kissandra's eyes widened as she plunged into the cold water. The water tube pulled her down and she rolled into a crouch. Down through the icy water she soared with the underwater current. Holding her breath she was petrified. Suddenly a strong body swam next to her, grabbed her hand, and pulled her down even faster! With her eyes squeezed shut and her cheeks puffed with air she let out a whimper squeezing his hand. It felt like eternity that she was underwater, but suddenly she was reemerging above the surface and gasped for breath. He yanked her up onto the rocks and released her hand.
As she wiped the water from her eyes she suddenly gazed in awe all around her. The cavern was filled with lush, green plants that dripped down like vines. Little creatures twinkled in the air and the gentle gurgle of water trickling in the cavern made her feel like she was in foreign land. "Wow..." she whispered, pulling herself to her feet. For the next hour the group explored, gathered clay and other materials, and soaked in the underground world. Then, it was time to go home. Kissandra had her arms full of supplies. Feeling a bit cheeky she smirked up at Speed. "I'm stuffed" she said playfully, "I'm ready to go home". He nodded upwards and away the pair went up the water tunnel.
Did he flirt back with her? No. And deep down, Kissandra knew that he wasn't interested in her. But, it was still a good day. The end.
